Eni Young Talents from Africa Awards Offer Two Research Prizes of €25,000
Eni Young Talents from Africa: research prizes
The Eni Young Talents from Africa 2027 competition offers two prizes of €25,000 each, paid in instalments subject to documentation. Winners also receive a plaque and specified travel and hospitality for the ceremony, with provision for one accompanying person. This is a competitive research award, not a general undergraduate bursary.
Who can apply
Applicants must be African citizens, including South Africans, born in 1986 or later. They need Bachelor’s and Master’s qualifications or equivalents and must be in their first or second PhD year at an African university or research institute by the deadline. Research must concern energy or the environment and have potential African benefit.
Deadline and application
The complete package is due by 20 November 2026 at 17:00 CET. Request private-platform access from eniaward@feem.it with your names, birth date, PhD institution and its country. A doctoral supervisor or programme director must provide a guarantor presentation letter. The English-language package includes prescribed forms, research explanation, CV, motivation, budget and academic/enrolment evidence. Consult the announcement for every document and format requirement.
Explain the research contribution clearly
Independent preparation advice: separate the problem, your method and the expected contribution. A proposal is easier to assess when the reader can understand what is already known, what remains uncertain and how your work will investigate that uncertainty. Avoid describing an intended outcome as if you have already proved it. If your research has early results, explain their limitations as carefully as their promise.
Connect expenditure to the project
Build your proposed budget around identifiable research activities. Explain why each expense is needed and which stage of the work it supports. Keep supplier estimates, quantities and currency assumptions together so that you can check the arithmetic. A prestigious award title is not a reason to request equipment or travel that does not serve your actual research question.
Work with your supervisor early
Give your supervisor a coherent draft rather than a last-minute collection of files. Ask for feedback on feasibility, research scope and the relationship between the proposed funding and the doctorate. You should remain responsible for the accuracy of your own academic history and claims. Use the review process to identify unclear assumptions and gaps in evidence, not to replace your own explanation of the project.
