Maastricht University Offers 18 Full NL-High Potential Scholarships for International Master’s Students

Maastricht University has opened its 2027–28 NL-High Potential Scholarship competition. The programme offers 18 full awards for eligible international students entering participating Master’s degrees in the Netherlands.

Funding and eligibility

The package includes tuition, insurance, visa costs, training, and living allowances of €20,150 for 13 months or €38,750 for 25 months. Airfare and the approximately €75 cleaning fee are not covered. Recipients must accept the allocated room; refusing it cancels the scholarship. The accommodation is unsuitable for partners, children or pets, and two-year scholars must arrange second-year housing themselves.

Applicants must hold an eligible non-EU/EEA nationality, excluding Switzerland and Surinam, without EU/EEA or Swiss dual nationality. They must meet programme admission requirements, have a GPA of at least 7.5/10, and be no older than 35 on 1 September 2027. Previous Dutch degree study excludes applicants; exchanges do not.

Choose an eligible programme

The official participating-programme list is essential. It includes selected degrees in arts and culture, European studies, law, health, psychology, neuroscience, and business. Examples include Global Health, Epidemiology, Financial Economics, and selected International Business specialisations. Eligibility attaches to the exact programme or specialisation listed, rather than every degree in a faculty.

How to apply and deadlines

Applications opened on 1 October 2026. Complete your admission application for an eligible programme by 10 December 2026; the scholarship application closes on 1 February 2027 at 23:59 CET. The earlier admission deadline is a separate requirement and should be your immediate planning priority.

First apply through Studielink and obtain a UM student number, then follow the scholarship form linked from the official award page. Submitted documents cannot be replaced. The portal has scheduled downtime on 22–26 October.

Before choosing a course, compare the scholarship’s participating list with that course’s own admission page. The university’s central scholarship overview confirms that the December admission cut-off applies to this award. Programme-level entry requirements still govern whether an applicant can be admitted.

Use the official scholarship and application page for the full conditions and submission link. Verified on 14 October 2026.
