SANRAL School Scholarships Offer Fees, Uniforms and Transport Support for Grades 8–12

SANRAL School Scholarships offer help with school costs for eligible learners applying for Grades 8–12. The current application notice closes on 31 October 2026. This is separate from SANRAL’s university bursary.
Official information checked on 26 October 2026. Reign Gigs is an independent publisher, not the funding provider. Selection and funding remain subject to the provider’s conditions.
SANRAL School Scholarships: who qualifies
Applicants must be South African citizens at an endorsed South African school, with at least a 60% overall average and household income below R550,000 a year. Awards are limited, with preference for Quintile 1–3 public schools, disadvantaged communities and rural applicants. Learners with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
What the scholarship supports
Support includes school and boarding fees, school and sports uniforms, books, stationery, reputable transport and registration where applicable. Maths and Science extra lessons and wellness access are also listed. Not every learner receives every cost item.
Prepare the application
SANRAL requests motivations from the parent, learner and school; June results; identification; residence evidence; and relevant household-income documents. Certification and income evidence generally need to be within three months. Follow the full official checklist for your family circumstances.
Submit once and keep the record
Use the official page’s application link. Applications are free. The system permits one application per learner and no changes after submission, so check every attachment first. The current notice says feedback by 31 January 2027; an older FAQ retains a conflicting September closing-date reference.
A practical review for parents and learners
Set aside time to review the form together before submitting it. Use the same spelling of the learner’s name and the same address across the form and supporting evidence. Where documents differ because a family has moved or changed circumstances, follow the programme’s instructions for explaining that difference instead of editing a record.
Ask the school for its motivation early enough to avoid a last-minute gap. A learner’s own statement can describe their interests, effort and educational plans in clear, ordinary language. It does not need exaggerated hardship or claims about future success. Keep this explanation personal and truthful; it should not be a copied statement from another applicant.
Plan for costs that may remain
List the school expenses that your family expects to face and identify which ones are covered by any eventual written award. Do not commit to boarding or transport arrangements merely because those categories appear on the programme page. Keep a copy of all submitted material, and use the official contact route if the application system gives an error. These are editorial planning suggestions, not additional scholarship requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Do learners have to choose particular subjects?
The programme covers Grades 8–12 regardless of subject choice, subject to its other criteria.
Does meeting the minimum mean an award is certain?
No. Places are limited and selection is competitive.
Can I correct the form after submitting?
The official page warns that changes are not available after submission. Review the completed form carefully.
