Sabie Labour Inspector Re-advert: key details

  • Employer: Department of Employment and Labour
  • Centre: Sabie Labour Centre
  • Reference: HR4/4/7/99
  • Number of posts: 1
  • Salary: R280,278 per annum
  • Closing deadline: 6 November 2026: 16:00 for walk-in applications and 23:59 for online applications
  • Official entry: DPSA Circular 38 of 2026, 38/123

Requirements and eligibility

  • A relevant three-year qualification in Labour Relations, BCom Law or LLB, using the qualification wording in the advert.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Knowledge of departmental procedures and relevant labour legislation, including the Skills Development, Labour Relations, Basic Conditions of Employment, Unemployment Insurance, Unemployment Insurance Contributions and Employment Equity laws.
  • Facilitation, planning, organising, interpersonal, interviewing, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Computer ability covering spreadsheets, presentations and word processing, with good verbal and written communication.

The post expressly states that no experience is required, but that does not remove the qualification or driver’s-licence requirements. Because it is a re-advertisement, a previous application will not carry over: the notice directs previous applicants to reapply.

What the work involves

This is an inspection and enforcement opportunity for applicants with the specified legal or labour-relations education. It is not a generic matric administration role. Its duties include field inspections, investigations, communication and accurate case reporting.

  • Carry out occupational inspections to check compliance with labour legislation.
  • Investigate reported breaches and take enforcement steps where required.
  • Conduct proactive blitz inspections.
  • Support advocacy campaigns on assigned labour legislation.
  • Help prepare inspection plans, reports and statistics on allocated cases.

Documents to prepare

Use the current Z83 employment application form and an up-to-date, comprehensive CV. Complete sections A, B, C and D in full. For sections E, F and G, the department allows a reference to the attached CV where space is limited, but the question about conditions preventing reappointment in section F must still be answered.

Initial and sign the Z83, including its declaration. Identify the correct job title, department and reference number. Each post needs its own application form. For an online submission, combine the Z83 and CV into one attachment.

Do not attach certified qualifications at the initial stage unless the employer subsequently requests them. Shortlisted candidates must supply the required certified documents on or before the interview date. Where applicable, foreign qualifications require SAQA evaluation at that stage.

How to apply and closing deadline

Applications close on 6 November 2026: 16:00 for walk-in applications and 23:59 for online applications.

The circular also prints the street address as Balalas 10th Avenue (Old Spar Center). For a hand-delivery plan, confirm the precise receiving point with the vacancy contact. The published email and postal routes above provide identifiable destinations. The department does not give a separate postal closing hour; posted applications must be received by the closing date.

Selection and enquiries

Shortlisted applicants undertake a practical exercise and an integrity assessment. The successful candidate must enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. The department limits correspondence to shortlisted candidates; if there is no contact within eight weeks after closing, its notice says to regard the application as unsuccessful. The department may decide not to appoint.

The stated priority groups are African males, Coloured males, Indian males and females, White males, and people with disabilities.
