Marriott International University Internship Opens Hospitality Career Opportunities

The Marriott International University Internship offers current students an opportunity to explore hotel operations at Protea Hotel Cape Town Tyger Valley. The full-time vacancy remains available through Marriott’s official careers website under job ID 26142798.

Current college or university enrolment is the stated eligibility requirement. The advert does not publish pay, duration, a closing date or a specific departmental assignment. Marriott also states that applicants are not charged recruitment fees. Check the live listing and clarify the terms before accepting an offer.

For the short vacancy summary, see our original Marriott internship announcement. This guide focuses on preparation and deciding whether the placement fits your studies.

Use the Marriott International University Internship to test career interests

Independent Reign Gigs guidance: The following exercises are preparation ideas, not promised Marriott assignments or additional eligibility conditions. Rather than treating any internship as a guaranteed job afterwards, use the application process to identify what you want to learn and what a placement would need to offer.

Choose two areas of hospitality that interest you and write down what you do not yet understand about the work. A student interested in guest service might want to understand how a request is recorded, passed to the right person and checked for completion. Someone interested in operations might want to learn how teams coordinate tasks when priorities change. The advertised vacancy does not guarantee either assignment.

Build evidence of service and teamwork

Prepare two honest examples for your CV or interview. One can show how you helped someone understand a process. The other can show how you completed your part of a shared task. Describe the situation, the action you personally took and the outcome. Examples from campus activities, volunteering or part-time work can be useful, but identify their context accurately.

Practise a fictional service scenario before an interview. Imagine that someone asks a question you cannot answer. Explain how you would listen, confirm what they need, find an authorised colleague and return with a clear response. Do not invent hotel policies or promise a refund, upgrade or other benefit that you have no authority to provide.

Notice the difference between being helpful and making an unsupported commitment. A useful answer can acknowledge a concern and explain the next step without promising a result. That distinction is worth practising in any customer-facing role, even when the exact duties of a future placement are not yet known.

Prepare a learning record, not a collection of guest details

If selected, ask your supervisor what learning notes are permitted and whether your institution requires a particular format. A simple weekly record could describe a skill practised, a question you asked, feedback received and one change to try next. It should not contain guest names, booking references, payment information or confidential business records.

For example, a reflection could explain that you learned to check an instruction before passing a request to another team. It does not need to identify the guest or reproduce an internal screen. Ask permission before using any workplace material in an academic assignment or portfolio, and follow the employer’s confidentiality rules.

Check the practical fit before committing

Confirm with your institution whether the work can count towards your qualification and what supervision or assessment is needed. Give the employer accurate information about your availability, examinations and required placement period. Full-time work needs a realistic timetable rather than an assumption that classes can always be rearranged.

List the unanswered terms separately: start date, duration, working schedule, remuneration, placement responsibilities and travel costs. Resolve them through the official recruitment process before making financial commitments. An application is an expression of interest, not proof that a place or a particular benefit has been awarded.
