Sefako Makgatho University Graduate Internships Offer R9,000 Monthly Stipends

With the Sefako Makgatho University graduate internships deadline approaching, a strong final check starts with the role you are applying for. Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University advertises six MQA-funded places, each lasting 24 months with a R9,000 monthly stipend. Applications close on 6 November 2026 at 16:00.

This guide focuses on turning your qualifications and experience into a relevant application. For the earlier role-by-role vacancy overview, see Reign Gigs’ SMU internship listing.

Match the role before writing your motivation

Applicants must be unemployed South African citizens with completed relevant qualifications. The opportunities cover research information systems, business development, finance, postgraduate administration and a chemistry laboratory. Most require a relevant diploma or bachelor’s degree; the laboratory route requires Chemistry at honours or master’s level. Check the exact discipline wording in the official SMU advert.

Start with a two-column note for yourself. On one side, write the requirement you can meet. On the other, identify the certificate, course project or genuine activity that supports it. This makes it easier to distinguish evidence from an aspiration. Interest in a field cannot replace a qualification the advert requires.

Prepare for Sefako Makgatho University graduate internships

Use the opening of your one-page motivation to identify the internship and your completed qualification. In the middle, select one or two relevant examples. Explain the task, your own contribution and what you learnt. Finish with the skills you hope to develop through supervised work.

For an information-systems application, an honest example might concern testing software or helping someone resolve a technical problem. For finance, it might involve checking a spreadsheet or explaining a discrepancy. An administration example could show how you organised records or coordinated a group task. Choose only examples that reflect work you actually did.

Avoid copying the same paragraph into applications for different roles. Relevance is more useful than a long list of flattering adjectives. If a project was academic, say so. If you assisted rather than led, describe that contribution accurately.

Choose evidence that fits your intended role

For business development, consider an exercise in which you assessed a business idea, identified a customer problem or compared costs and expected income. Explain the assumptions you used and what evidence would be needed to test them. A classroom business plan can be a useful example when it is clearly described as coursework rather than a trading business.

For the chemistry laboratory route, think about a practical task that required careful records, safe working methods or checking an unexpected result. Describe your level of supervision accurately. You do not need to disclose confidential research data to explain how you approached quality and safety.

After choosing an example, ask whether a reader can identify your contribution without guessing. Replace vague claims such as being highly organised with a brief account of how you tracked a task, checked information or followed up on a deadline. This is preparation guidance, not a promise about how the university scores applications.

Check the email and attachments

Email tshepo.sebesho@smu.ac.za using the chosen role’s subject code and your full name. Send a separate email for each role. Attach your CV, one-page motivation and certified ID, Matric, academic-record and qualification copies as clear PDFs. Images and password-protected files are not accepted.

Use the subject code exactly as shown in the official role table. Review the complete message once before sending, with particular attention to the recipient, chosen position and attachments. Open every PDF from the draft email rather than assuming the correct version was attached.

Keep a private copy of the application and monitor the contact details you supplied. Do not post your identity document or academic record publicly while asking others to check your application.

This is an application-preparation guide, not an additional selection requirement. Reign Gigs is independent of SMU. The official notice governs recruitment; checked on 5 November 2026. No timezone is stated in the notice.
