Amazon Recruitment Bursary Offers Study Funding and a Paid Internship

Amazon Recruitment Bursary funding for software development students

The Amazon Recruitment Bursary provides capped support for tuition, accommodation, subsistence, books and stationery, a computer and transport. It also requires participation in a paid summer internship. The current official programme page confirms applications close on 11 November 2026 for funding beginning in 2027.

Check the academic and citizenship requirements

Applicants must be South African citizens studying at a recognised South African university, with an average of at least 65%. Relevant undergraduate fields include computer science, computer engineering and software engineering, including artificial intelligence or machine learning specialisations. The programme specifies final-year undergraduate study in 2027 and progression towards Honours or NQF level 8 completion by the end of 2028. Master’s students are excluded.

Understand the internship and employment commitment

Candidates must demonstrate coding ability and be available for employment from January 2029 if offered a role after assessment. Receiving the full bursary requires openness to working for Amazon for a period equal to the funded years, conditional on an offer. Neither the internship assessment nor bursary selection guarantees permanent employment.

Use StudyTrust’s application process

Read StudyTrust’s application instructions, then use the Apply Here button on the official Amazon programme page to open the StudyTrust KYC DD bursary form. Prepare your identity document, academic record, household-income evidence and other requested supporting documents. StudyTrust requires applicants to write their own essays; AI-written essays are not accepted, although spelling and grammar checks are permitted. Its general application guidance excludes households with combined annual income above R850,000. Its bursaries are not sold through intermediaries.

Make your coding experience easy to understand

The following is independent preparation advice. Select a small number of projects that you can explain clearly. For each one, describe the problem, your contribution, the tools used and a limitation you encountered. A working project that you understand thoroughly is more useful evidence than an impressive list of technologies you have barely used. Be explicit when work was completed with classmates or colleagues.

Check your study timeline before applying

Draw up a simple timeline covering your current qualification, intended next qualification and expected completion dates. Compare it with the sponsor’s requirements. If your degree structure differs from the wording on the official page, ask StudyTrust for clarification rather than assuming that a similar qualification automatically qualifies. Keep any answer with your application records.

Read the funding agreement carefully

Capped funding is not the same as an unlimited payment of every expense. Before accepting an award, establish the approved amounts, payment arrangements and conditions that apply if your study plans change. Ask how the internship and employment commitment work in practice. Do not sign an agreement that you have not read or cannot explain in your own words.
