Agbiz Centenary Bursary 2027: Support for Agribusiness Master’s and PhD Research
South African students pursuing agribusiness-related postgraduate research can apply for the Agbiz Centenary Bursary 2027. Applications close on 6 December 2026, with no late submissions accepted. The scheme supports master’s and PhD study connected to agribusiness management at recognised South African universities.
Eligibility and research fit
The current terms require South African citizenship, registration or admission eligibility for the relevant postgraduate degree, and a minimum of 60% in major subjects. Applicants must have completed relevant undergraduate study or be in its final year.
Your research topic matters alongside your academic record. As editorial preparation, write a short explanation of the practical question your research addresses and why it matters to agribusiness. Identify the problem, the evidence you intend to examine and the contribution you hope to make, without promising a result before the research is conducted.
What support is available?
The current official terms do not state a fixed bursary amount. Payments are planned for February 2027, normally through the university. Do not build a budget around an amount quoted for an earlier year or by an unofficial listing.
Other awards must be disclosed. Recipients have progress-reporting obligations, and the agreement includes cancellation and repayment conditions where study is discontinued or progress is unsatisfactory. Renewal is not automatic. Read the full terms before making a commitment.
Build a focused application
Agbiz requests a recommendation from the academic supervisor or head of department of no more than one page and a personal motivation of no more than one page. Use the official 2027 application form and provide its supporting documents.
For the recommendation, approach your academic supervisor or head of department who can discuss your actual work and intended study. Give them enough time to prepare a useful letter. For the motivation, explain the funding need and intended use clearly. A concise explanation of the gap in your study budget is more informative than an unexplained request for general financial help.
Submit by email
Send the completed form and supporting documents to policy@agbiz.co.za. Check the official bursary page before sending and keep the receipt acknowledgement. Selected applicants are expected to hear by mid-January 2027; unsuccessful applicants will not receive a separate notification.
