About the Tesla Applied AI Software Engineer Role

The successful applicant will design, develop, test, and deploy production AI agents capable of reasoning over manufacturing data, assisting engineers in diagnosing issues, making informed decisions, and improving factory operations.
This role requires a strong understanding of software engineering, artificial intelligence, manufacturing systems, and collaborative product development while working closely with manufacturing experts to deliver reliable AI-powered solutions.
Key Responsibilities
As an Applied AI Software Engineer, you will:
- Design, build, and deploy production AI agents for manufacturing operations.
- Develop a deep understanding of factory processes and manufacturing workflows.
- Build AI systems using modern agent development frameworks.
- Create retrieval pipelines, tool integrations, and guardrails that improve AI reliability.
- Develop prompt engineering strategies for large language models.
- Evaluate AI performance using automated testing and evaluation datasets.
- Integrate AI systems with SQL databases, streaming platforms, and manufacturing equipment.
- Lead projects from requirements gathering through deployment.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and product teams.
- Maintain high software engineering standards through code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and logging.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience developing and maintaining production software.
- Programming experience in one or more of the following:
- Python
- Go
- JavaScript
- C#
- Experience with front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Knowledge of SQL databases including PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Familiarity with ClickHouse and Kafka.
- Hands-on experience with AI agent development frameworks such as Google ADK or LangGraph.
- Practical experience using Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Experience with Prompt Engineering.
- Experience implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).

Salary
Tesla offers an attractive compensation package.
The expected annual salary for this position ranges from:
- US$140,000 – US$210,000 per year
The final salary depends on factors including experience, technical expertise, qualifications, and market location.
