The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is recruiting a Data Collection Officer under a daily-paid contract in Damascus, Syria. Role and Responsibilities

The Data Collection Officer will support protection data management across multiple operational workstreams, including:

1. Project Monitoring and Database Support

  • Monitor project implementation and maintain Protection Programme databases.

2. Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Compile and analyse data for monthly snapshots, summaries and Emergency Appeal indicators.
  • Draft report sections, analytical notes and lessons-learned documents.

3. End-User and Business Process Support

  • Engage with programme staff to improve data processes and workflows.
  • Integrate multiple data streams to develop comprehensive protection profiles.

4. Assessment and Incident Reporting

  • Prepare reports on integrated assessments and incidents affecting UNRWA installations.

5. Trend Monitoring and Ad-hoc Analysis

  • Monitor protection indicators and respond to data inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.

6. Technical Reporting Support

  • Assist in the design and maintenance of moderate to complex reports and dashboards.

7. Additional Duties

  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Protection Team Leader.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Reside in Syria and be within commuting distance of Damascus.
  • Hold a university degree, preferably in social sciences, data management, political affairs, humanitarian studies or related fields.
  • Have at least two years of experience in data management within a humanitarian, protection or relief operation.
  • English proficiency at UN Level II across all skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking). Arabic is necessary for operational duties.
  • Strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office and data tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with strong organisational and analytical skills.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Protection Information Management (PIM).
  • Familiarity with UNRWA operations.
