Background & Job Description

VisionFund, the microfinance arm of World Vision, seeks to end intergenerational poverty through financial services, empowering communities to improve their livelihoods and sustain economic growth. The Communications Intern position is remote within the United States and part of the VisionFund Strategy Team, supporting microfinance efforts by gathering impact stories, crafting content, and expanding communication efforts.

This internship, open to students and recent graduates, provides a three-month opportunity to gain experience in international relief and development by working alongside teams like Strategy, Impact-Data, and Marketing & Communication.

Tasks

  • Discover Impact Stories: Analyze data to identify and develop compelling stories that demonstrate the program’s real-world impact.
  • Content Creation: Develop engaging content for various platforms, including websites and social media, to highlight VisionFund’s mission and successes.
  • Data Storytelling Innovation: Experiment with data storytelling techniques to improve the presentation of impact data through creative marketing materials.
  • Research Microfinance: Conduct research on microfinance and communicate key insights for an audience of stakeholders and donors.
  • Impact Database Management: Learn to work with the Impact Database, assisting the Impact Team in managing and accessing data effectively.

Qualifications for Remote Communications Internship

Education and Certification

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated (within two years) from a graduate program, ideally in Communications, Marketing, International Development, Data/Analytics, English, or related fields.

Experience

  • Strong background in writing, preferably with experience publishing content online or in magazines.
  • Skills in online research, data-led storytelling, and content creation.
  • Knowledge of data visualization and digital communications.
  • Passion for poverty alleviation and familiarity with the microfinance sector.

Additional Skills

  • Interest in innovative approaches to poverty solutions.
  • Strong written communication and content creation skills.
  • Familiarity with World Vision’s mission and values.

Additional Information

  • Location: Remote within the United States. Candidates must reside in one of the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MO, NJ, NY, NC, OR, TN, TX, VA, or WA.
  • Internship Dates: January 27 – April 25.
  • Stipend: Unpaid, but includes a monthly stipend of $800 for US-based interns.
  • Hours: Full-time (30-40 hours per week).
  • Eligibility Requirements: Must be 18 or older, eligible to work in the US, commit to a 30-hour minimum weekly schedule, adhere to World Vision International’s Christian Statement of Faith, and agree to use personal electronic devices with endpoint security software for the internship.
