Background & Job Description

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, operating in over 120 countries to deliver food assistance in emergencies and support long-term recovery efforts. The Private Partnerships Division (PSP) is essential to WFP’s mission, engaging the private sector—corporates, foundations, and individuals—to secure vital funding and expertise. This Business Development Consultant (Gaming) position is a key part of PSP’s strategy to expand its reach and secure significant, sustainable resources by tapping into the innovative and rapidly growing gaming sector. The role is fully remote, offering flexibility while contributing directly to global humanitarian efforts.


Tasks

The selected consultant will be responsible for spearheading WFP’s outreach to the gaming sector. Key responsibilities and deliverables include:

  • Developing and implementing tailored business development strategies for the gaming and entertainment sectors.
  • Identifying and cultivating high-value private sector partnerships with a focus on innovation and long-term collaboration.
  • Creating compelling value propositions and pitch materials to attract new partners.
  • Leading cold outreach and engagement with new prospects, leveraging WFP networks.
  • Collaborating with technical and legal units to co-develop partner ‘products’ and formalize agreements.
  • Ensuring a seamless handover of partnerships to the management team.
  • Supporting WFP’s emergency fundraising efforts during crises.
  • Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting progress.
  • Representing WFP at global conferences and events.
  • Deliverables include securing at least one multi-year, $1M+ partnership, completing a landscape mapping of gaming sector partners, and developing actionable sector-specific strategies.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

A university degree in Game Studies, Marketing, International Development, Political Science, or a related field is required. An advanced degree or relevant certification is considered a plus.

Experience

A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in business development, partnerships, B2B sales, or fundraising is essential, ideally within the gaming, media, or entertainment sectors. Candidates must demonstrate success in securing high-value partnerships and managing the entire partnership lifecycle. A strong understanding of gaming industry dynamics and relevant partnership opportunities is crucial. Experience working with or within UN agencies, international NGOs, or donor organizations is highly desirable. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, and strong organizational abilities are also required. Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of an additional UN language is advantageous.

This is a fully remote consultant role with a contract duration of 11 months, and potential for duty travel. While based remotely, the position plays a vital role in WFP’s global mission to end hunger.
