The World Bank Group (WBG) Young Professionals Program (YPP) is designed to recruit and develop future leaders who are committed to the WBG’s mission of a world free of poverty on a livable planet. YPs join as Technical Specialists, Economists, or Associate Investment Officers on an initial five-year term contract. The program features structured learning, talent development through the YP Academy, rotational assignments across the WBG institutions, and opportunities for one-on-one coaching and mentorship. YPs contribute to high-impact projects, from improving infrastructure and education to healthcare and environmental sustainability, working in Washington D.C. or in various country offices worldwide.
Beyond the YPP, the World Bank also offers the Junior Professional Associates (JPA) program for recent Bachelor’s graduates and the World Bank Group Internship Program (BIP) for graduate students, which are separate entry points.
Tasks
Tasks for World Bank YPs are diverse and revolve around the core work of the institution they join (IBRD, IFC, or MIGA). They typically include:

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- For the Young Professionals Program (YPP):
- Must be born on or after October 1, 1992.
- Citizen of a World Bank Group member country.
- Completion of a Master’s-level degree or equivalent, or a higher qualification in a relevant field, before September 1, 2025. If pursuing a doctorate, the degree must be substantially complete with all written work submitted before September 1, 2025.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English. Fluency in other languages (e.g., French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Portuguese) is advantageous.
- For Junior Professional Associates (JPA):
- 32 years of age or younger.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree.
- Fluent in English.
- For World Bank Group Internship Program (BIP):
- Enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (Master’s or PhD).
- Have an undergraduate degree.
- Fluent in English.
Experience
- For the Young Professionals Program (YPP):
- Over four (4) years of full-time work experience following successful completion of undergraduate studies. Relevant doctoral studies and internships in relevant areas may count towards work experience.
- Demonstrated technical expertise and experience in a work program area relevant to the World Bank Group (e.g., economics, finance, human development, agriculture, environment, digital transformation, infrastructure, governance).
- Outstanding leadership potential.
- For Junior Professional Associates (JPA):
- Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and no professional experience are eligible, though some positions may favor those with some experience. Strong analytical and research capabilities.
- For World Bank Group Internship Program (BIP):

Additional Information
The Young Professionals Program (YPP) offers a competitive salary (an annual average net salary of US$ 105,275.00, ranging from US82,000.00toUS150,800.00, plus benefits including medical insurance, relocation travel, and a mobility premium for expatriate staff). YPs join on a 5-year term contract.
The Junior Professional Associates (JPA) program offers a three-year ungraded Extended Term Consultant/Temporary (ETC/ETT) appointment with a comprehensive rewards package including annual and parental leave, medical and life insurance. JPAs are locally recruited, meaning they are not eligible for global mobility benefits, though the World Bank facilitates G4 visas for non-US nationals in Washington D.C.
The World Bank Group Internship Program (BIP) pays an hourly salary to all interns and may provide an allowance toward travel expenses up to USD 3,000.
