Background & Job Description

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB), in partnership with the South African Bank Note Company (RF) Proprietary Limited (SABN), is offering the Work Integrated Learning Programme (WILP) for 2025. This programme addresses the country’s shortage of skills in the technical and engineering sectors by providing structured, hands-on experience to qualifying learners.

Participants will gain exposure to technical fields within SARB and SABN operations, preparing them for trade tests or completion of national diplomas. The programme sites include SARB’s Head Office in Pretoria, the SABN in Pretoria North, and SARB cash centres in Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg.

Participants will receive a work-based learning stipend throughout the programme duration.

Tasks

  • Participate in practical, on-the-job training at SARB and SABN locations.
  • Gain professional experience in technical fields such as Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Plumbing, HVAC, and Carpentry.
  • Complete required work experience to qualify for trade tests or diploma graduation.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and supervisors during project assignments.
  • Attend structured mentorship and training sessions.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Artisan Stream: Applicants must have at least an N4 certificate from a Further Education and Training College and require 36 months of practical work experience.
  • Technician Stream: Applicants must have completed at least S4 from a University of Technology and require 12 months of practical work experience to complete a national diploma.

Experience

  • No prior work experience required, but applicants must demonstrate:
    • A strong interest in technical and engineering fields.
    • Commitment to completing practical training requirements.
    • South African citizenship is mandatory.

  • Programme Locations: Pretoria (Head Office and SABN), Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg (Cash Centres).
  • Stipend: Participants will receive a monthly stipend during the programme.
