Background & Job Description
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nations’ specialized agency for global public health. The WHO Internship Programme is designed to provide students and recent graduates with a hands-on experience in public health and various other fields. Interns are placed in a specific WHO program, allowing them to contribute to meaningful work while being mentored by experienced professionals. The program is committed to building a diverse pool of future leaders in public health, with a wide range of opportunities available in technical and administrative areas such as communications, human resources, and external relations.

The tasks assigned to interns are designed to be both educational and impactful. Depending on the specific program, an intern may be required to:
- Conduct research on public health topics and assist in drafting reports.
- Provide support for technical and administrative projects.
- Assist in the organization of meetings, workshops, and events.
- Contribute to communications and advocacy efforts by drafting content and managing social media.

- Compensation and Benefits: Since January 2020, WHO has provided a living allowance (stipend) to eligible interns who need financial support. This is a monthly stipend, and the amount is determined based on the location. All interns also receive medical and accident insurance coverage for the duration of the internship.
- Application Process: All applications for the WHO internship program must be submitted through their official careers site using the online recruitment system, Stellis. The WHO posts “global vacancy notices” for internships four times a year (typically in February, May, August, and November), and you can apply at any time while the notice is open.
