Reporting to the Director of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and directly supervised by the Unit Head of Dissemination Systems, the position involves serving as the primary point of contact for web design, content management, and various aspects of the organization’s website.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as the main resource to:
  • Supervise and maintain the online presence of UIS, including the website and microsites (Drupal; Apache; IIS; SOLR, WordPress), and other digital assets. This involves design contribution, user experience enhancement (including search), navigation, faceting, content-type maintenance and creation, template maintenance and creation, graphic embedding, site evolution including security updates and patches.
  • Supervise and maintain UIS shared visualizations.
  • Define non-functional requirements and standards for UIS following accessibility, usability, mobile responsiveness, and SEO best practices. Ensure adherence to these standards in UIS’s online presence.
  • Manage website content such as webpage creation/updating, page layout, and image editing and optimization.
  1. Provide assistance in supporting various UIS systems, including:
  • Hosting of UIS online presence (MS Azure Cloud; on-premises).
  • UIS Data API, Shared Visualization Components (React.js; D3.js) and associated components.
  • Various UIS databases including: Data Center (UIS.Stat), NADA (Data Catalogs) and the Learning Outcomes (LO) Database.
  1. Contribute to the evolution of the UIS online presence and how the UIS utilizes digital technologies.
  2. Contribute to the UIS’s digital strategy to broaden the visibility and use of the UIS website, open data, embeddable objects, and social media among various audiences.
  3. Carry out any additional tasks required to support the UIS mandate and to ensure the success of the team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Completion of secondary, technical, or vocational education is required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience is required, including proficiency in Drupal and WordPress with advanced site-building skills, extensive knowledge of contributed modules, development of custom modules, and module/plugin management and maintenance.
  • Wide-ranging experience with web technologies, including practical knowledge and expertise in HTML/HTML5, XML, CSS/CSS3.
  • Proficiency in PHP and JavaScript, and their application within the Drupal framework. Knowledge of D3, REACT.js, node.js, and FLUX Framework.
  • Knowledge of version control systems and processes.
  • Experience in designing responsive and mobile-optimized websites (Bootstrap) and cross-browser design (IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome).
  • Familiarity with web content management platform architecture and server configuration.
  • Experience in implementing web content management platforms.
  • Exceptional creativity and aesthetic sense.

SKILLS / COMPETENCIES

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Expertise in the entire Adobe CC suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, etc.) or other professional graphic design software.
  • Experience in converting design and product vision into a functional UI/UX in a business environment.
  • Prior experience in creating print and digital graphic content.
  • Previous experience as a frontend developer.

LANGUAGES

  • Proficient in both written and spoken French.
