About the Visiting Scholars Programme

UNU-WIDER invites scholars to spend 2–3 months at its Helsinki office, conducting research, preparing publications for the WIDER working paper series, and presenting seminars. This programme particularly encourages applications from early-career, female, and developing country researchers.

Financial support includes a monthly stipend of €3,330, medical insurance, and partial travel grants to cover high travel costs exceeding €1,200. Please note that expenses related to dependents are not covered.

Eligibility Requirements for UNU-WIDER Visiting Scholars Programme 2025-26

• PhD in economics or a development-related discipline
• Strong publication record (preferred but not required)
• Research aligned with development and global economic topics
• Open to early-career researchers and those from developing countries
