  • Policy and Work Programme:
    • Support the Section’s key directions and strategic goals.
    • Provide technical support in urban legal systems and human settlements analysis.
    • Participate in advisory missions to develop urban legal knowledge and policies.
    • Assist in building the agency’s and partners’ legal capacity in urban law.
    • Document and disseminate best practices and success stories in urban legislation.
    • Provide technical assistance to member states and local authorities on urban law development and implementation.
  • Reporting, Advocacy, and Advisory Services:
    • Conduct research on a range of urban legal topics.
    • Analyze and present data from diverse sources.
    • Contribute to written outputs such as draft papers, reports, and studies.
    • Provide feedback on consultants’ deliverables.
    • Ensure effective execution of projects and programmes.
  • Knowledge Management, Evaluation, Coordination:
    • Provide substantive support to field offices, meetings, and conferences.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Law is required. A first-level university degree with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additional qualifications in data analytics, business analytics, or data science are desirable.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in conducting legal research and analysis is required. Experience working on urban law issues, organizing workshops/missions, and developing relations with governments and international partners is desirable. Experience in international organizations and data analytics is a plus.

Language Proficiency

Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.

Assessment and Special Notice

Qualified candidates will undergo an assessment exercise and a competency-based interview. This position is initially for one year, with potential extensions based on performance and organizational needs.
