Background & Job Description
The United Nations University (UNU), a global think tank and postgraduate teaching organization within the UN system, bridges research and policy to address global challenges. UNU-IIGH, one of its 14 research and training institutes, focuses specifically on advancing global health through evidence-based policymaking and sustainable development. This internship offers hands-on exposure to global health programming, institutional storytelling, and stakeholder engagement. The selected intern will contribute to internal coordination, research consolidation, and communications, supporting the Institute’s 20th anniversary initiatives. The role is based on-site in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Tasks
The Programme Support Intern will assist the UNU-IIGH team with:
- Coordination & Event Preparation: Support scheduling and logistical planning for regional events and meetings, maintain databases, and track action items.
- Research Consolidation & Knowledge Management: Collect, compile, and organize data from internal and partner sources, developing summaries and timelines.
- Communications & Stakeholder Engagement: Draft email templates, support multimedia material collection, and assist with proofreading and formatting for dissemination.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
Applicants must be recent Master’s graduates (within one year) or final-year undergraduate students in disciplines such as public health, communications, political science, international relations, or related fields. A strong academic record or relevant experience is essential.
Experience
Candidates should possess strong organizational and written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage administrative tasks independently. Curiosity about global health and institutional engagement practices, adaptability, reliability, and self-initiative are essential. Familiarity with tools like Canva or basic media editing platforms is a plus. Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required; knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
Additional Information
This is a full-time, on-site internship for a duration of 3 to 6 months, based at the UNU-IIGH office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A monthly stipend of MYR 1,000 will be provided to cover basic living expenses. Interns are required to have health and life/accident insurance coverage for the duration.
