Background & Job Description

The Council of Women World Leaders is a global network of 91 current and former women Presidents and Prime Ministers. Established in 1996, the Council is dedicated to increasing the visibility and influence of women leaders while promoting gender equality and good governance. The Council operates as an independent organization, hosted by the United Nations Foundation in Washington, D.C.

The United Nations Foundation is currently accepting applications for a Communications and Social Media Intern to support the Council of Women World Leaders. This remote internship offers an opportunity to engage in digital content creation, social media strategy, event coordination, and research related to global women leaders.

Tasks

Social Media & Content Management

  • Develop and manage a content calendar for social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, X).
  • Create and publish engaging content, ensuring consistency across platforms.
  • Monitor and analyze social media performance, providing insights and reports.

Website & Newsletter Management

  • Maintain and update the Council’s website with relevant events and news.
  • Improve website aesthetics and ensure timely content updates.
  • Manage and update the Council’s quarterly newsletter.

Event & Outreach Coordination

  • Draft invitations for Council events and assist with planning.
  • Maintain and update the Council’s membership database.
  • Conduct research to track women leaders globally, updating records on newly elected or outgoing heads of state.
  • Identify and arrange speaking opportunities for Council members.
  • Organize and coordinate monthly Council meetings, including agenda preparation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Track relevant news related to Council members and global leadership.
  • Perform ad-hoc research and administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program.

Experience & Skills

  • Background in communications, social media, or non-profit work is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing social media accounts and creating content.
  • Ability to analyze social media metrics and optimize engagement strategies.
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or similar design tools.
  • Experience in website maintenance and design.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks under pressure.

Additional Information

  • Candidates must have a personal laptop/computer and access to the internet.
  • Availability to work up to 29 hours per week during Eastern Time business hours.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
