Interns will work closely with the Managing Director, Assistant Director, and NextGen Manager to support various projects and initiatives that drive UNICEF USA’s mission forward.


Tasks

As a UNICEF Next Generation Intern, you will be involved in various projects and responsibilities that enhance your understanding of nonprofit engagement and advocacy. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Donor Research & Engagement
    • Conduct research on Gen Z and Millennial philanthropy trends and compile findings into actionable reports.
    • Identify potential NextGen members and engagement strategies for various levels: Community monthly pledge members, Collective members, and Council members.
    • Assist in donor stewardship by tracking engagement patterns and suggesting personalized outreach strategies.
  2. Social Media & Communications
    • Support the NextGen team by gathering and curating content for social media platforms and communications.
    • Develop creative storytelling ideas to highlight NextGen’s impact and fundraising achievements.
    • Draft written content for newsletters, website updates, and email campaigns.
  3. Archival & Fundraising Research
    • Build a historical archive showcasing NextGen’s fundraising projects dating back to 2009.
    • Organize and document past campaigns, initiatives, and their impact on UNICEF programs.
  4. Event Planning & Support
    • Assist in planning the first in-person gathering and onboarding event for the newly created NextGen Leadership Council.
    • Provide logistical support, including venue coordination, invitation management, and agenda planning.
    • Contribute to event marketing and outreach efforts to maximize attendance and engagement.
  5. Benchmarking & Strategy Development
    • Conduct comparative research on other nonprofit NextGen models and present insights to the team.
    • Suggest strategic improvements to increase donor retention and engagement.
  6. Cross-Team Collaboration
    • Work closely with various UNICEF USA teams to align NextGen strategies with broader organizational goals.
    • Participate in internal meetings and provide input on philanthropic outreach and engagement efforts.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Must be a current student enrolled in a college or university degree program.
  • Open to students from various fields, including communications, nonprofit management, marketing, international relations, or related disciplines.

Experience

While prior experience in nonprofit work, donor engagement, social media strategy, or event planning is beneficial, it is not a strict requirement. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Some experience in processing archival collections or organizing historical data.
  • A background in community engagement, philanthropy, or nonprofit fundraising.
  • Interest in social media strategy and communications.
  • Familiarity with research and benchmarking methods to analyze philanthropic trends.

Skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills – Ability to compile and present insights on Gen Z and Millennial philanthropy.
  • Communication proficiency – Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly for donor engagement and content creation.

  • Team player mentality – Comfortable working collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Tech-savvy – Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel is preferred.

Additional Information

  • Location:
    • Remote within the United States, with preference for candidates based in New York, NY or other major UNICEF geo-hubs.
  • Compensation:
    • $17.50 per hour with a maximum of 30 hours per week.
  • Internship Term:
    • Summer 2025 cohort with opportunities for Fall and Spring placements.
    • Must be able to work within the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone, with availability on Fridays between 12 – 2 PM EST preferred.
  • Work Authorization:
    • Must have authorization to work in the U.S. for the full duration of the internship.
    • Must be eligible to work for any U.S. employer without sponsorship.
