Background & Job Description

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Internship Programme is a fully funded global initiative designed to provide students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds with hands-on experience in the humanitarian and development sector. Interns will work directly with UNICEF teams in various offices worldwide (both in-person and remotely), contributing to critical projects that impact children’s rights and well-being across areas like health, education, child protection, policy, innovation, and more. This program emphasizes experiential learning, supporting interns’ academic, professional, and personal growth.

Tasks

Interns will engage in a variety of tasks depending on the specific department and project, which may include:

  • Conducting research and analysis on child-related issues and global trends.
  • Drafting reports, briefings, and communication materials.
  • Supporting program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Assisting with data collection, entry, and management.
  • Contributing to advocacy campaigns and public outreach.
  • Providing support in functional areas such as Human Resources, Finance, IT, Logistics, and Supply Chain.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD program, or have graduated within the past two years (24 months) from the time of application.
  • Strong academic performance and motivation are essential.
  • While all academic backgrounds are welcome, fields such as Public Health, Law, IT, Economics, Social Sciences, Education, International Relations, Communication, Environmental Science, and other related disciplines are particularly relevant.

Experience

  • No professional work experience is required.
  • Prior volunteer experience, leadership roles in student organizations, or academic projects demonstrating relevant skills are considered advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages (English, French, or Spanish) are mandatory. Proficiency in the working language of the office you are applying to may also be required.
  • Demonstrated interest in UNICEF’s mission and values.
  • Strong teamwork, time management, and initiative.

Additional Information

UNICEF’s Paid Global Internships offer a comprehensive package, including a monthly stipend to cover living expenses, a one-time lump sum contribution towards travel costs, and coverage of visa costs (if applicable). UNICEF will provide relevant supporting documents for visa applications. The duration of an internship typically ranges from six to twenty-six weeks and can be on a full-time or part-time basis, with remote options available for many positions.     My name is Beatrice Bonetti and I am a Master’s student in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, graduating in September. I have a background in Management Engineering (I graduated with a Bachelor in 2023 from Politecnico di Milano).
