Background & Job Description
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Internship Programme is a comprehensive global initiative designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical, hands-on experience in the humanitarian and development sector. Interns will work alongside UNICEF teams in various offices worldwide, which may include headquarters, regional offices, and country offices (with options for both in-person and remote work). Tasks
Interns will undertake various tasks tailored to their specific department and project, which could include:
- Conducting research and analysis on child-related issues and global trends.
- Drafting reports, briefs, communication materials, and policy documents.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD program, or have graduated within the past two years (24 months) from the time of application.
- Strong academic performance and clear motivation are essential.
- Relevant fields of study include, but are not limited to: Public Health, Law, Information Technology, Economics, Social Sciences, Education, International Relations, Communication, Environmental Science, and other related disciplines.
Experience
- No prior professional work experience is explicitly required. This program is an excellent entry point for new talent.
- Previous volunteer experience, leadership roles in student organizations, or academic projects demonstrating relevant skills (e.g., research, analysis, communication, teamwork) are considered advantageous.
- Proficiency in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages (English, French, or Spanish) is mandatory. Fluency in the working language of the office you are applying to may also be required.
- Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, time management, and initiative are highly valued.
- Applicants should not have an immediate relative (e.g., mother, father, sister, brother) working with UNICEF or any other relatives in their direct reporting line of authority.
Additional Information
UNICEF’s Paid Global Internships offer a competitive monthly stipend to contribute towards living expenses, and in some cases, a one-time lump sum may be granted to cover travel and visa costs if funding is available.
