Background & Job Description
UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, operates in 190 countries, working to safeguard the rights and welfare of children worldwide. The organization is seeking a highly motivated intern for the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PME) unit in Eritrea. This opportunity allows young professionals to gain hands-on experience in development planning, performance monitoring, and results-based management.
The PME unit supports the Government of the State of Eritrea (GoSE) and UNICEF’s 2022–2026 country program by providing data analysis, evaluation, and reporting. Under the supervision of the PME Specialist, the selected intern will contribute to UNICEF’s efforts in strategic planning, real-time monitoring, and results-based evaluation.
This internship is ideal for candidates passionate about child welfare, development planning, and evaluation. Interns will engage in technical activities such as monitoring frameworks, corporate reporting, and capacity building for results-based management (RBM).
Tasks
The PME Intern will support key areas of UNICEF Eritrea’s programming, including:
Program Monitoring and Evaluation
- Assist in monitoring program implementation against annual work plans.
- Participate in the mid-year and end-year reviews to assess progress.
- Support the PME Specialist in ensuring quality data collection and real-time monitoring.
- Contribute to risk assessments and streamlining of monitoring plans.
- Assist in updating the Integrated Monitoring and Evaluation Plan (IMERP).
Corporate Reporting
- Support the bi-annual Results Assessment Module (RAM) reporting exercise.
- Contribute to the development and quality assurance of annual reports, including Country Office Annual Reports (COARs) and Common Systems Indicators (CSIs).
Program Planning
- Assist in reviewing annual work plans.
- Support the development of guidance notes for planning initiatives.
- Participate in internal and external stakeholder meetings on program planning.
Results-Based Management (RBM)
- Support capacity-building activities related to RBM for UNICEF staff and partners.
- Help design and deliver RBM training sessions, focusing on monitoring and reporting.
- Provide research and data support for evidence-based decision-making.

Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- A university degree in Social Sciences, Development Planning, Planning, Evaluation, Advanced Statistical Research, or a related field.
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of practical experience in program development, monitoring, evaluation, or reporting.
- Previous work with NGOs, international organizations, or UN agencies is an advantage.
- Field experience, especially in development or emergency response settings, is desirable.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to complex environments.
- Experience using data visualization and statistical tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and the local language.
- Knowledge of Results-Based Management (RBM) principles and monitoring frameworks.

- Contract Type: Internship (Full-time).
