Background & Job Description
The UNFCCC secretariat plays a critical role in supporting the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement. This position is based in Bonn, Germany, under the Transparency Division – Information Hub, Data Systems and Tools Subdivision.
The Associate Programme Officer will work with climate data management, transparency reporting frameworks, and intergovernmental negotiations. The role supports technical processes for GHG inventories, national reports, and climate data systems, while contributing to the development of the Climate Data Hub.
Tasks
Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing and presenting GHG data and contributing to mandated climate reports.
- Supporting the preparation and publication of data-related documents for review processes.
- Maintaining and enhancing IT systems and reporting tools under MRV and ETF frameworks.
- Supporting intergovernmental negotiations on climate data and transparency frameworks.
- Contributing to training, technical assistance, and knowledge-sharing for developing countries.
- Responding to technical data inquiries from Parties, organizations, media, and academia.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Advanced university degree in environmental science, engineering, information systems, computer science, or related fields.
- A first-level university degree with 2 additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in place of a Master’s.
Experience
- At least 2 years of professional experience in data management, data analysis, or project/service management within information systems.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze technical climate data and prepare reports.
- Experience working with IT tools, Excel, macros, and automation.
Language Skills
- Fluency in English (required).
- Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

- Contract type: Two years, with the possibility of extension.

- Salary: US$ 55,163 per year + post adjustment (approx. 40.3%) + UN benefits.
