The Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD), a key UNDP initiative, works to foster the private sector’s involvement in development. Established in 2011 through a partnership agreement between the Republic of Turkey and UNDP, ICPSD supports private enterprises and foundations as transformative development partners. Its work spans research, advocacy, and public-private dialogue facilitation, particularly in regions affected by crises such as conflict or economic instability.
Under its Crisis Response and Resilience thematic area, ICPSD aids businesses in disaster-prone and conflict-affected areas, providing strategic guidance to build resilience and improve crisis management capabilities. The goal is to enhance economic resilience and encourage sustainable recovery in affected regions. One of the critical focus areas for the fellowship is migration, which continues to impact local economies, social cohesion, and community stability, especially in the context of forced displacement and climate-induced migration.

Tasks
As a Research Fellow, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Migration Research and Project Development (40%)
- Conduct thorough economic analysis on migration-related issues, particularly the alignment of international funding priorities with private sector engagement in migration crisis response.
- Support the development of new projects by identifying potential private sector partnerships and analyzing the economic impact of various migration policies.
- Contribute to project proposals and strategies to increase the sustainability of migration initiatives.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Data Collection (20%)
- Identify and engage key stakeholders at local, national, and international levels to gain insights and support for migration research projects.
- Conduct consultations with various stakeholders such as policymakers, humanitarian organizations, and private sector actors to collect data and validate research findings.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure active participation and collaboration on migration-related projects.
- Report Writing (40%)
- Write detailed reports on donor funding trends, investment opportunities, and the impact of economic policies on migration.
- Develop case studies that explore innovative solutions for migration resilience, including business models, community-led initiatives, and climate adaptation strategies.
- Produce high-quality research papers that contribute to both academic knowledge and practical solutions for the socio-economic empowerment of vulnerable populations.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Required: A Bachelor’s degree in migration studies, economics, development studies, international relations, public policy, social sciences, or a related field.
- Preferred: An advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in migration studies, economics, or related disciplines is an asset.
Experience
- Required:
- Proven experience in conducting research on migration, crisis response, and resilience.
- Demonstrated experience in developing research projects, proposals, and research questions related to migration and resilience.
- Expertise in migration policy analysis, utilizing appropriate research methods, tools, and techniques.
- Preferred:
- Experience working in disaster-prone, conflict-affected, or economically disadvantaged regions.
- Practical knowledge of private sector engagement in development contexts, particularly in migration and resilience building.
Language Skills
- Required: Proficiency in English (both written and spoken) is mandatory.
Other Competencies and Skills
- Strong analytical skills to collect and synthesize data, transforming it into actionable insights.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage various tasks and responsibilities.
- A demonstrated ability to work in diverse cultural, gender, and social contexts with a focus on sensitivity and adaptability.
- Ability to respond positively to feedback, work in a team environment, and engage with differing viewpoints.
Additional Information
- Stipend: During the fellowship, UNDP will provide a monthly stipend, determined based on the duty station’s stipend rates, which are published annually by the OHR Policy and Compensation Unit. This stipend will be paid monthly to support the Fellow’s living expenses.
- Contract Duration: The fellowship contract is for 6 months. There is no expectation of employment with UNDP following the completion of the fellowship.
- Work Hours: The position is full-time, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week.
- Eligibility and Selection: Fellows will be selected by UNDP based on their qualifications and the specific needs of the fellowship. The selection process is competitive, and the final decision rests with UNDP. Please note that UNDP reserves the right to select one or more candidates for similar positions at the same grade level.
