Background & Job Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme equips young professionals with the skills and experience to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). JPOs gain exposure to multilateral cooperation, sustainable development, and UN operations, with guidance from experienced UNDP staff.
The Climate Change Analyst JPO will be based in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, supporting the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), the Secretariat functions, and the Energy-Social Accounting Matrix (E-SAM) initiative. The role also contributes to UNDP’s broader climate change portfolio, including NDC implementation, net-zero roadmaps, and climate finance.
The position is funded by the Government of Denmark for one year, with the possibility of a further 12-month extension based on performance and organizational need.
Tasks
- Provide technical support for monitoring and implementing Viet Nam’s JETP, including GHG reduction tracking and project data analysis.
- Support the JETP Secretariat and strategic dialogues with stakeholders such as MOIT, IPG, and GFANZ.
- Contribute to UNDP’s broader climate and energy initiatives, including climate finance, adaptation, and resilience.
- Facilitate knowledge management, policy advocacy, and UNDP’s visibility in energy transition initiatives.
- Prepare technical notes, briefing materials, and scenario modelling of energy policies.
- Collaborate across UNDP units and multidisciplinary teams to integrate climate priorities.
Qualifications (Education and Certification, Experience) UNDP JPO 2025 – Climate Change Analyst
Education & Certification
- Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Sciences, Energy, Transport, Economics, Development, Public Policy, or related fields.
- Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of relevant experience will also be considered.
Experience & Skills
Required:
- 2+ years (with Master’s) or 4+ years (with Bachelor’s) experience in climate change, energy transition, or related fields.
- Knowledge of international best practices in low-carbon development, energy transition, and climate policy.
- Experience in project design, monitoring, and evaluation.
Desired:
- Familiarity with multilateral organizations, especially UNDP.
- Experience working in Viet Nam or Southeast Asia.
- Proficiency in Office Suite.
- Fluency in English (writing, speaking, presentation).
Nationality
Open only to nationals of Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Myanmar, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda. The first university degree must be obtained from one of these countries.
