UNDP Job Opportunity: Communications Associate

Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications Associate will work closely with the CO Programme, Operations, and project teams, staff of other UN Agencies, UNDP Communications Regional and HQ staff, government officials, national and international media, donors, and civil society. They will promote a client-oriented approach in UNDP.

Key Functions:

  • Support Communication Strategies: Implement internal and external communication and outreach strategies for the country office.
  • Support Communication Needs Assessments: Assist in identifying the communication needs of projects, country programs, and corporate change initiatives.
  • Information Gathering and Archiving: Collect information from different programs and projects for use in communication activities and maintain an information database and photo library.
  • Publication Strategy Implementation: Coordinate with projects and programs to identify leads for communication publications, support translation, editing, proofreading, and supervise publication dissemination.
  • Monitor and Evaluate Progress: Support effective monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on project implementation.
  • Digital Content Management: Apply corporate guidelines for digital content on the country office website, intranet, and social media.
  • Knowledge Management and Dissemination: Compile knowledge products from programs/projects and ensure proper archiving and content upload on internal databases and websites.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with suppliers/vendors as necessary.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as required for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.

Institutional Arrangement

The Communication Associate will work under the general supervision of the Assistant Resident Representative and will collaborate closely with projects and other CO units.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Secondary education is required.
  • A university degree in Communications, Journalism, or Advertising is preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • 7 years (with high school diploma) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant communications experience, preferably at the national level, promoting activities of an international development organization.
  • Experience with computers, office software packages (MS Word, Excel), and web-based management systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.
  • Experience in graphic designing, social media management, and storytelling is desirable.
  • Experience with photography and/or videography is an asset.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
