Background & Job Description

Launched in 2021, the UNDP Graduate Programme is an entry-level talent initiative for recent graduates from UNDP programme countries. It offers a unique opportunity to work with a UNDP country, regional, or headquarters office for a fully funded 2-year assignment. The programme aims to foster workforce diversity, build capacity, and shape a new generation of international development professionals.

So far, UNDP has launched two successful cohorts, selecting candidates from tens of thousands of applicants globally. Participants are placed in roles supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with real-world exposure to either programme/policy or corporate operations workstreams.


Tasks

Depending on the assigned stream, graduates will:

  • Programme & Policy Stream: Assist in designing and implementing UNDP’s development programmes and projects
  • Corporate Operations Stream: Support UNDP’s internal operations, including finance, HR, and oversight functions
  • Participate in strategic planning, monitoring, and policy work
  • Contribute to UNDP’s development impact in host countries
  • Engage in innovation, digital transformation, and systems-thinking work
  • Collaborate with UNDP teams and external partners globally

Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field with no more than 1 year of relevant work experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 2–3 years of relevant work experience

Experience:

  • Proven passion for international development, policy work, or operational support
  • Demonstrated digital, innovation, or systems-thinking skills
  • Willingness to live and work abroad for a full 2-year period

  • Open to nationals of UNDP programme countries
  • Strongly encourages applications from women, minority groups, indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and first-generation university graduates

🗣 Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • Working knowledge of French, Arabic, or Spanish is an asset and may be required for specific roles
