Background & Job Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is calling for applications for its Digital Transformation Internship: Global Call for 2025. This internship is a remote opportunity designed for individuals passionate about digital technology, innovation, and international development. UNDP aims to leverage digital transformation to foster sustainable development, democratic governance, and inclusive institutions worldwide.
UNDP operates across 170 countries, employing 17,000 staff members, and has been at the forefront of digital transformation since the launch of its Digital Strategy in 2019. The current UNDP Digital Strategy 2022-2025 focuses on creating a world where digital technologies empower people and the planet. The Chief Digital Office (CDO) leads this initiative, ensuring that digital technology is embedded in UNDP’s global development projects.
This internship provides an opportunity for individuals to engage in cutting-edge digital initiatives, contribute to innovative solutions, and support UNDP’s mission in advancing digital ecosystems worldwide. The role is available on a rolling basis, and successful candidates will receive an offer anytime between March 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025.

Tasks
Interns selected for this role will work in one or more of the following key areas:
1. Digital Transformation: Inclusive Digital Ecosystems
- Assist in developing inclusive and rights-based digital ecosystems for various countries.
- Support implementation of equitable, ethical, and secure digital public infrastructure.
- Conduct primary research and content review on topics such as digital inclusion, AI, and ethical technology.
- Facilitate knowledge management, collecting and sharing insights on digital advancements.
- Coordinate with UNDP units on thought leadership and advocacy efforts.
- Develop social media content, blogs, and briefing notes to support digital awareness initiatives.
2. Digital Transformation: Country Office Support & Capacity Building
- Assess digital and AI readiness for different nations.
- Assist Country Offices in developing national AI strategies and data governance frameworks.
- Enhance accessibility of digital and AI learning resources for government partners.
- Provide support for AI talent development, green computing, and AI safety initiatives.
- Collaborate with local offices to implement digital tools and frameworks.
3. Digital Strategy Development & Implementation
- Conduct research on key digital topics to support global UNDP initiatives.
- Manage and maintain the UNDP digital guides webpage.
- Design and implement UNDP’s digital capacity footprint.
- Assist in speechwriting, briefing preparation, and event coordination for senior leadership.
- Analyze progress of UNDP Digital Strategy implementation and propose improvements.
4. Business Operations (People, Finance, Procurement)
- Support operations in monitoring resourcing plans and tracking financial progress.
- Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and official events.
- Ensure compliance with UNDP’s procurement and recruitment policies.
- Identify inefficiencies in processes and propose actionable improvements.
5. Thought Leadership, Partnerships & Strategic Communications
- Conduct research on potential partnerships with technology firms, NGOs, and academic institutions.
- Develop strategic communications materials, including concept notes, proposals, and outreach content.
- Support UNDP’s participation in multilateral engagements and UN conferences.
- Assist in social media planning, content creation, and engagement efforts.
6. Digital Product Development & Implementation
- Assist in designing and developing digital tools, such as AI-driven applications and web platforms.
- Conduct user testing and evaluate feedback for product improvement.
- Support implementation of digital solutions in local UNDP programs.
7. UNDP Transformation & Change Management
- Assist in managing internal UNDP communities to promote digital knowledge-sharing.
- Track and analyze the progress of digital transformation initiatives.
- Contribute to internal communications, maintaining knowledge databases, and designing newsletters.
- Support efforts to integrate digital tools into UNDP projects.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school program (Master’s degree or equivalent).
- Be in the final academic year of an undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Have recently graduated (within the past one year) from a university program.
Candidates with experience or interest in digital transformation, technology, policy, AI, data governance, or international development are encouraged to apply.
Experience
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Experience in digital technology, AI, data governance, or software development is an advantage.
- Familiarity with international organizations, NGOs, or government institutions is preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and project management skills.
