Background & Job Description
UNDP’s Regional Programme for Africa focuses on inclusive growth, resilience-building, and strengthening regional institutions to sustain peace and sustainable development. The programme works in partnership with the African Union and regional economic communities, guided by principles of cooperation, integration, and innovation.
The Communications Intern will work under the supervision of the Regional Communications and External Engagement Specialist to support the creation and dissemination of impactful content. This includes drafting communication materials, managing social media engagement, supporting branding efforts, and contributing to multimedia storytelling.
Tasks
Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting and editing communication content for internal and external use.
- Creating engaging visuals, video snippets, and branded digital materials.
- Supporting social media strategy, including scheduling posts and monitoring engagement.
- Editing photos, videos, and preparing multimedia content for campaigns.
- Updating websites, compiling toolkits, and producing promotional materials.
- Tracking communication metrics and preparing performance reports.
- Assisting with media monitoring, event promotion, and press activities.
- Providing innovative ideas to enhance visibility and engagement.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme OR final year of a bachelor’s degree OR recently graduated in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or related Social Sciences.
- Must begin the internship within one year of graduation.
Experience
- No professional work experience is required.
- Knowledge or prior experience in communications, public relations, or media is an advantage.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Suite, and social media tools is highly desirable.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
Language
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
