Qualifications
Education and Certification
For jobs:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, development studies, international development, or a related field is typically required.
- A first-level university degree with additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
- Project/program management certifications are often an added advantage.
For internships:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or higher).
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s level).
- Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Experience
For jobs:
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in program design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation is often required.
- Specific technical experience in areas like Ending Violence Against Women, economic empowerment, or governance is a key requirement for many roles.
- Experience in leading and coaching staff, as well as coordinating with government agencies and donors, is desirable.
For internships:
- No prior professional work experience is required, but previous experience may be an advantage in the selection process.
- Interns should possess strong computer skills and a keen interest in the work of UN Women.
- Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of other official UN languages (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is a strong asset.
