Background & Job Description

The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) is a national grassroots organization dedicated to promoting public education and advocacy in support of the United Nations. With over 20,000 members and 200 local chapters, UNA-USA works to strengthen U.S.-UN relations by engaging the public in meaningful dialogue and action. The organization operates under the umbrella of the United Nations Foundation and plays a key role in mobilizing support for global initiatives.

The Associate, Communications and Digital Marketing will be responsible for supporting UNA-USA’s overall communication strategy. This includes content development, branding, email marketing, website management, and digital outreach. Working closely with UNA-USA leadership and the UN Foundation’s communications team, the Associate will ensure that UNA-USA’s messaging remains compelling and impactful.

This position is based in Washington, DC with a hybrid work schedule and reports directly to the Managing Director of UNA-USA.

Tasks

Communications & Branding

  • Assist in the development and execution of a strategic communications plan that aligns with UNA-USA’s mission and goals.
  • Support branding efforts to ensure consistency across all UNA-USA communications and materials.
  • Write and edit various forms of content including blog posts, petitions, and emails.
  • Develop communications strategies for key UNA-USA events such as the Global Engagement Summit, UNA-USA Leadership Summit, and UN Day.
  • Create promotional materials and oversee branding efforts for UNA-USA’s programs and initiatives.
  • Manage UNA-USA’s online Slack community by engaging members and curating content.
  • Oversee the New Member Experience email series to enhance member engagement.

Digital Marketing & Social Media

  • Develop and implement email marketing campaigns to engage UNA-USA members and advocates.
  • Manage UNA-USA’s website design, development, and content updates.
  • Create engaging content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other social media platforms.
  • Track and analyze social media engagement metrics to optimize digital strategies.
  • Assist in developing digital advocacy campaigns in collaboration with UNA-USA’s Grassroots Advocacy Manager.
  • Write and curate content for UNA-USA publications such as UNA Today, PASSPORT, and Chapter Leader Update.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate internal communications to ensure UNA-USA initiatives are aligned with the UN Foundation’s broader strategies.
  • Assist in content creation for UNA-USA’s Youth Observer to the UN program.
  • Utilize Adobe Premiere or other editing tools to create and edit promotional videos.
  • Manage vendor contracts and invoice processing related to communications initiatives.
  • Stay updated on UNF policies regarding contracts and grants.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience in communications, digital marketing, and/or social media management.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with experience in crafting engaging digital content.
  • Proficiency in Canva, HTML, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere.
  • Knowledge of CRM and CMS systems such as Salesforce, EveryAction, and WordPress.
  • Understanding of social media monitoring, paid advertising, and analytics tools like Google AdWords and Google Analytics.
  • Experience working with grassroots organizations is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for international relations, public policy, and digital advocacy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
