For nearly 25 years, extreme poverty had been steadily decreasing. However, the fight against poverty recently encountered its most significant setback in a generation. Due to the COID-19 pandemic’s disruption, compounded by the impacts of conflict and climate change, global extreme poverty is projected to increase in 2020, marking the first rise in over two decades. Ending poverty is a complex task that requires tailored strategies informed by the latest data and analysis, as well as a deep understanding of each country’s context and the needs of its people. The world’s response to these challenges will determine whether the current trend of poverty reversal can be reversed itself.
