Job Description

As a Social Worker at World Vision Ethiopia, you will play a crucial role in providing vital support to children and women who have been impacted by conflict in Dembia. Your responsibilities will include assisting the project officer in situational assessment, operational planning, implementation, and monitoring of activities related to internally displaced persons (IDPs). Additionally, you will provide individual and group psychological first aid and psychosocial support to help restore the safety, dignity, and hope of those affected by the conflict.

he role of the Child Online Protection Consultant is pivotal in driving forward ITU’s mission in safeguarding children in the digital domain. Working under the guidance of the ITU Project Manager and focal point on Child Online Protection, and in close collaboration with relevant ITU Regional Offices, the consultant assumes a multifaceted role in providing technical support for project activities at the national, regional, and global levels.

Central to the consultant’s responsibilities is the facilitation of a protective online environment for children, ensuring their rights to survival, education, development, participation, and well-being, as enshrined under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international treaties and frameworks. Depending on their expertise and experience, the consultant will contribute to ITU’s global efforts in Child Online Protection.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Assist in Operational Planning: Work closely with the project officer to assess the situation on the ground, develop operational plans, and monitor the implementation of activities aimed at supporting internally displaced persons.

  1. Psychological Support: Provide both individual and group psychological first aid and psychosocial support to children and women affected by the conflict, helping them cope with trauma and rebuild their lives.
  2. Community Engagement: Facilitate consultations and discussions with beneficiary populations to ensure their voices are heard in needs assessment, protection/assistance delivery, and the development of durable solutions.
  3. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with local authorities and relevant government sectors to facilitate the recovery and reintegration of affected populations, including women and children.
  4. Child-Friendly Spaces: Coordinate and manage the establishment of child-friendly spaces in collaboration with schools, local authorities, and faith leaders, providing safe and supportive environments for children to learn and play.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A first degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education, or related fields.
  • Experience: At least one year of relevant experience in child protection and related areas. Knowledge and experience in Gender-Based Violence (GBV) programming is an asset.
  • Skills: Ability to implement integrated child protection responses, including GBV. Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training: Extensive training in CP/GBV, psychosocial well-being, case management, and application of international technical guidelines and standards in Child Protection and GBV.

Travel and Work Environment

Frequent travel to project sites and the national office may be required.

Language Requirements

Fluency in written and spoken English, as well as local languages, is essential.

Additionally, this department shoulders the responsibility of supporting ITU Member States in their transition towards digital societies.

This support encompasses the provision of tools and guidelines to address environmental challenges, particularly in combating climate change and mitigating e-waste. Moreover, the Digital Networks & Society Department endeavors to foster innovation, promote ICT applications/services, drive digital inclusion, and nurture ecosystems, all under the overarching goal of ensuring that no individual is left behind in the digital age.
