Sasol Bursary Applications Now Open for 2026 Academic Year. The Sasol Bursary Applications for the 2026 academic year are now open from 8 April to 18 May 2025. This bursary supports South African students pursuing full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in engineering, data science, and chemistry, offering comprehensive financial and developmental support.

Background & Bursary Description
Sasol, a leader in the chemicals and energy sectors, has officially opened applications for its Mainstream Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year, running from 8 April to 18 May 2025. These bursaries are designed to develop South African talent in STEM-related fields, specifically engineering, chemistry, and data science, and are open to students pursuing full-time degree studies at accredited South African universities (excluding UNISA and hybrid qualifications).
The programme provides full financial aid, including tuition, accommodation, books, and monthly allowances, alongside developmental support. Successful candidates may also join Sasol through its Graduate Development Programmes after graduation.
Please note: Sasol bursaries do not accept applications from candidates with Technical Maths or Maths Literacy. There is a work-back or pay-back obligation for bursary recipients.

Undergraduate (B.Eng. Tech.) at University of Technology
- Mine Surveying
Postgraduate Studies (M.Sc., M.Eng., Ph.D.)
Available in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, including specializations such as:
- Fluid Dynamics
- Thermodynamics
- Catalysis and Polymer Science
- Environmental Sciences
- Cyber Security
- Applied Mathematics
- Advanced Analytical Chemistry (Vibrational Spectroscopy or Gas Chromatography)
Postgraduate applicants must have an area of interest aligned with Sasol’s energy and circular economy transition goals. Project proposals are not required during application, but candidates should be prepared to discuss potential research ideas.
Key Tasks & Requirements for All Applicants
- Must study full-time toward a standard degree program (no dual/hybrid degrees)
- Study must be at a public South African university (UNISA excluded)
- Only one application per student is permitted
- Applicants must be under the age of 30 at the time of application
- Bursaries are not available to non-South African citizens
- Students apply using the most recent full year academic results (e.g., Grade 11 for current matriculants)

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- For B.Eng. / B.Sc. applicants: Must have pure Mathematics and Physical Science with high academic performance
- For Postgraduate applicants: Must have completed a relevant bachelor’s degree and be ready to discuss research interests aligned with Sasol’s strategic areas
Experience
- No work experience required for undergraduate applicants
- Postgraduate applicants should demonstrate strong academic performance and alignment with Sasol’s R&D focus areas
Additional Information
- Bursaries are conditional based on continued academic performance in the year preceding bursary activation
- Sasol reserves the right to terminate or withdraw offers if misinformation or academic inconsistencies arise
- Applications must be submitted online at the Sasol bursaries portal. Emailed or late applications will not be accepted
- All applicants will be notified of their application outcome by end of November 2025
