Background & Job Description
Amnesty International is seeking a dedicated Researcher to join its West and Central Africa Regional Office in Dakar. The role focuses on investigating, documenting, and exposing human rights violations across the region. The successful candidate will work closely with Amnesty teams globally to shape regional strategies, ensure accurate and timely responses to human rights abuses, and produce authoritative research that strengthens Amnesty’s advocacy and campaigns.
This is a fixed-term contract for 18 months, with a standard working week of 35 hours.
Tasks
The Researcher will:
- Lead Amnesty’s research agenda in West and Central Africa, producing actionable, high-quality analysis.
- Monitor, investigate, and assess human rights developments across the region.
- Conduct field missions and fact-finding in complex and sensitive contexts.
- Build and maintain networks with civil society, legal experts, survivors, and decision-makers.
- Represent Amnesty in high-level forums, media, and with stakeholders.
- Draft reports and advocacy materials to influence policy and public narratives.
- Mentor team members and support internal collaboration to enhance regional research capacity.

Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Deep understanding of human rights issues in West and Central Africa.
- Proven expertise in researching complex political, social, legal, or human rights issues.
Experience
- Strong political judgement and ability to identify strategic opportunities.
- Experience leading in challenging environments and representing organizations credibly.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
- Commitment to Amnesty International’s mission, values, and principles of equality, diversity, and impartiality.
