Amnesty International, a globally recognized human rights organization, is seeking a Research, Campaigns, and Communication Assistant (RCCA) for its West and Central Africa Regional Office in Dakar. This permanent, full-time role (35 hours per week) is a unique opportunity for professionals passionate about human rights advocacy and research. As a Research Assistant, you will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and disseminating critical human rights-related information, ensuring Amnesty International’s mission to combat injustices and protect human rights in the region. You will also assist in coordinating research projects, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting field operations to ensure efficient documentation and advocacy efforts.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Research & Analysis
- Monitor and analyze political and human rights developments in West and Central Africa, ensuring timely and relevant reporting.
- Assist in collecting and managing human rights-related data, providing comprehensive analysis to support Amnesty International’s advocacy campaigns.
- Support the production of internal research reports, briefing materials, and campaign documentation.
- Maintain and update a research database, ensuring accuracy and accessibility of information.
- Provide insights and updates on current events affecting human rights within the region.
Communication & Campaigning
- Draft and edit written content, including campaign materials, policy briefs, and social media updates, to enhance Amnesty International’s visibility.
- Act as a primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, addressing inquiries and coordinating responses.
- Facilitate the distribution of reports and publications to relevant audiences, ensuring timely dissemination.
- Assist in developing digital communication strategies, leveraging social media platforms to raise awareness and mobilize support.
- Organize events and workshops related to human rights awareness and advocacy initiatives.
Administrative & Logistical Support
- Provide logistical support for field research and investigative missions, including budget planning and travel coordination.
- Manage administrative functions, such as scheduling meetings, maintaining records, and tracking project progress.
- Collaborate with different teams within Amnesty International to ensure streamlined communication and coordination.
- Support crisis response efforts and emergency interventions in cases of urgent human rights violations.

Qualifications & Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Education & Certification
- A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Human Rights, Political Science, Law, Journalism, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Additional training or certification in research methodologies, advocacy, or communications is a plus.
Experience
- Previous experience in human rights research, advocacy, communication, or campaign coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex political and human rights issues.
- Experience in managing office systems and research databases.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Prior experience in event coordination and stakeholder engagement.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of human rights and political developments in West and Central Africa.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and French (Spanish is an added advantage).
- Strong analytical, proofreading, and editing skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to process, organize, and interpret human rights-related data effectively.
- Proficiency in digital communication and social media platforms.
