Background & Job Description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China is seeking a Project Support Intern to join its team in Beijing, China. UNDP China plays a crucial role in advancing poverty reduction, human development, and South-South cooperation projects. The Communications, Innovation, and Partnerships team works to enhance the visibility of UNDP’s initiatives through media engagement, public-private partnerships, and high-impact campaigns. In addition to communications, the team actively explores and prototypes innovative solutions to tackle complex development challenges.

Tasks

1. Supporting Project Implementation

  • Assist in monitoring and tracking the progress of innovation projects by maintaining communication with stakeholders and managing risks.
  • Prepare project updates, reports, and internal documentation, including drafting key documents and taking meeting notes.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to ensure the smooth execution of projects, such as organizing events, handling procurement, and arranging travel for team members and stakeholders.
  • Help with financial management tasks, ensuring that project expenditures comply with UNDP financial regulations.
  • Collaborate with external consultants, vendors, and service providers to maintain the quality and timely delivery of project-related services.
  • Support the development of new innovation project proposals, aligning them with UNDP’s strategic objectives and addressing pressing global development issues.

2. Supporting Communications and Partnership Development

  • Maintain strong relationships with existing partners and contribute to efforts to expand partnerships with new stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing and sharing knowledge materials within UNDP’s networks and communities of practice, ensuring that insights from past projects inform future initiatives.
  • Contribute to public relations and media outreach efforts, including drafting press releases, social media posts, and newsletters to highlight UNDP’s work.
  • Support the organization of events, conferences, and workshops aimed at increasing public awareness of UNDP’s impact.
  • Collaborate with other UNDP teams to ensure that innovation projects align with organizational objectives and contribute to overall development goals.
  • Handle ad hoc tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education and Certification Requirements

To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet at least one of the following educational criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program.
  • In the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Have graduated from a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program within the last year.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program where this internship is a requirement.

Preferred Fields of Study:

  • International Relations, Political Science, Social Sciences, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Administration, Innovation, or related fields.
  • Candidates with experience or knowledge in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, or gender studies are encouraged to apply.
  • Overseas study experience is considered an advantage.

Experience Requirements

While prior work experience is not mandatory, candidates with the following experiences will be given preference:

  • Experience in translation, media events, or social media campaigns.
  • Leadership experience in university or social activities (e.g., Model United Nations, student associations, volunteer work).
  • Previous internships, volunteer work, or part-time roles in communications, partnerships, innovation, or international organizations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, and online collaboration tools.

Language Proficiency

  • Required: Fluency in both English and Chinese (spoken and written).
  • Preferred: Additional skills in content creation, graphic design, or multimedia production will be considered an asset.

Additional Information

Internship Conditions

  • Duration: 3 months (with a possibility of extension, depending on organizational needs).
  • Location: Beijing, China (in-office internship).
  • Stipend: Interns will receive a monthly stipend to cover basic expenses.
  • Health & Insurance: Interns must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan and submit a medical certificate of good health before starting the internship. Any expenses related to medical care will be the responsibility of the intern.
  • Visa & Travel Arrangements: Interns are responsible for obtaining their own visas and travel arrangements to and from Beijing. UNDP does not cover travel, accommodation, or visa expenses.
  • Leave Policy: Interns are entitled to 1.5 days of leave per month.
