  1. What I like about this fellowship is how wide the scope is. The roles aren’t only in one sector—they might be in public health, education, business development, monitoring & evaluation, communications, and more. So whether you’ve studied sciences, humanities, or development, there is room to apply. Positions are spread across various countries in Africa.

Also, there are two tracks: the “general fellowship program” (for folks educated at U.S.-accredited universities) and the “Nexus” program (for those educated and residing in African institutions). The Nexus track seems particularly thoughtful—pairing fellows from African universities with co-fellows from U.S.-accredited ones, which means collaboration, learning, and shared perspectives.

The funding side looks solid too: Fellows get housing, a stipend for living, medical & evacuation insurance, etc. The fellowship is intended to cover most on-the-ground costs, though fellows do contribute some things like visa/permit costs, airfare, and a small placement fee.
