With over 85 years of experience, the organization works globally to empower young people, particularly girls, by tackling the root causes of poverty, violence, and discrimination.

As part of its commitment to evidence-based decision-making, Plan International has an opening for a Part-time Research Assistant to support its Third-Party Monitoring (TPM) project in Cameroon. This role involves working closely with the Project Coordinator and Area Supervisor to oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting.

The Research Assistant will be based in the Bamenda Field Office, with responsibilities that include developing data collection tools, conducting interviews, and analyzing data to provide insights that will inform Plan International’s programs and policy decisions. This position requires a professional who is adept at handling both qualitative and quantitative data and is comfortable collaborating with diverse teams.


Tasks

The Part-time Research Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the development and refinement of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools, including surveys and interview guides.
  • Conducting data collection through various methodologies such as KOBO Collect, ODK, SPSS, and STATA.
  • Cleaning, analyzing, and interpreting data to generate actionable insights.
  • Preparing monthly narrative reports that outline key findings and recommendations.
  • Supporting the Project Coordinator and Area Supervisor in ensuring compliance with Plan International’s programmatic standards.
  • Contributing to research efforts that measure the impact of programs on children’s rights and gender equality.
  • Assisting in organizing and managing databases for efficient data retrieval and reporting.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective use of research findings.
  • Participating in training sessions and workshops to strengthen the capacity of field teams in data collection and analysis.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Management of Information Systems (MIS), Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Additional training or certification in monitoring and evaluation (M&E), data analysis, or research methodologies is highly desirable.

Experience

  • At least three (3) years of experience in data collection, monitoring and evaluation, or research.
  • Proficiency in data management software such as GIS, Advanced Excel, KOBO Collect, ODK, SPSS, and STATA.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including survey design and in-depth data analysis.
  • Familiarity with gender equality, child rights, and international development programs.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with data visualization and reporting.
  • Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, field officers, and research teams.
  • Experience in database design and management, including map production and data visualization tools.
