Background & Job Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is recruiting Communications and Programme Support Interns for its #WeBelongAfrica Programme (WBA) based in Pretoria, South Africa. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to initiatives that promote LGBTI rights, young key populations, and inclusive governance across Sub-Saharan Africa.
UNDP’s HIV and Health Group (HHG) focuses on reducing inequalities and supporting marginalized populations. The WBA Programme aims to make African governments more inclusive of LGBTI individuals and young key populations (YKPs), contributing to better laws, services, and social norms.
Interns will be part of a dynamic team working on communication, advocacy, and programme support to advance these vital goals.

Tasks
Communications Intern:
- Support the creation of social media content (infographics, GIFs, videos) to engage audiences and raise awareness.
- Develop communication materials, including presentations, blogs, and stories.
- Assist in monitoring current events and identifying opportunities for visibility and engagement.
- Prepare analytics reports to enhance communication strategies.
Programme Intern:
- Assist in day-to-day programme activities, including organizing events and meetings.
- Conduct research on LGBTI inclusion and rights within priority countries in Africa.
- Support the collection of data to measure programme success.
- Help coordinate partnerships with key stakeholders such as parliamentarians, NGOs, and religious leaders.

Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Postgraduate degree (Master’s or higher), or in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, communications, or a related field.
Experience & Skills
- Knowledge of LGBTI and young key populations issues.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to create compelling public content.
- Proficiency in MS Office/365 and social media platforms. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is an asset.
- Fluency in English (required); proficiency in French or Portuguese is a plus.
