The incumbent may receive indirect guidance from other relevant sections and units in line with UNHCR Manual, program and protection objectives, Operations Plans, and UN and UNHCR financial/budgetary rules and regulations. Duties
- Assess the needs of persons of concern in the Area of Responsibility (AoR) and formulate project submissions in collaboration with district authorities and implementing partners.
- Promote and monitor the implementation of assistance projects.

- In coordination with implementing partners, assist with the reception, registration, and provision of assistance to persons of concern to UNHCR.
- Keep track of cases of detention; register applicants for voluntary repatriation and family reunion.
- Assist in preparing monthly sectoral reports and submit material for the preparation of periodic project monitoring reports and year-end reports.
- Submit recommendations for protection interventions to the designated officer.

For now, only Nakivale Settlement is receiving new arrivals from Nyakabande/Kisoro and Matanda/Kanungu Transit centers and at the same time, some walk-ins that go through the Refugee Status Determination procedure conducted by the Refugee Eligibility Committee of Uganda. As of October 31, 2023, the refugee population of Nakivale settlement is about 180,000, including forcibly displaced persons and statelessness from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and other nationalities.
