Within the UNHCR’s Division of External Relations (DER), the Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) plays a crucial role in mobilizing resources from the private sector to support refugees. In line with UNHCR’s global strategy, the PSP MENA office, headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), is at the forefront of engaging with businesses and organizations to drive support for refugees. As part of our efforts to expand our reach and impact, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Social Media Assistant to join our team in Dubai.

The Division of External Relations (DER) oversees UNHCR’s external engagement, including fundraising, advocacy, and partnerships. Within DER, the Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) focuses on mobilizing resources from the private sector to support UNHCR’s humanitarian work.

PSP MENA, headquartered in Dubai, UAE, is the regional hub responsible for engaging with private sector partners across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Our team works closely with businesses, philanthropic organizations, and individuals to raise funds, advocate for refugee rights, and promote innovative solutions to refugee challenges. With ambitious fundraising targets and a commitment to maximizing the impact of private sector partnerships, PSP MENA is dedicated to driving positive change for refugees in the region.
Purpose and Scope of the Role
As a Senior Social Media Assistant, you will play a key role in enhancing PSP MENA’s online presence and engagement. Working under the supervision of the Senior PPH Associate, you will be responsible for managing PSP MENA’s social media platforms, coordinating content development for the Refugee Zakat Fund, and supporting the overall social media strategy of the office. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your social media skills and creativity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of refugees.
Key Responsibilities
- Social Media Management: You will support in managing PSP MENA’s social media platforms, including VoicesWithRefugees, under the supervision of the social media communications focal point. This involves creating engaging content, scheduling posts, and monitoring audience engagement. Additionally, you will coordinate and support the development of social media platforms for the Refugee Zakat Fund, ensuring consistent messaging and branding across all channels.
- Content Development: You will contribute to the development of social media plans and calendars, as well as assist in the research and creation of digital content and engagement opportunities. This may include writing copy, designing graphics, and editing videos to effectively communicate key messages and promote refugee causes.
- Community Engagement: You will be responsible for community management on PSP MENA’s social media accounts, responding to comments and questions in line with approved guidelines. By fostering meaningful interactions with our online community, you will help build trust and support for UNHCR’s work among diverse audiences.
- Campaign Support: You will work closely with the social media communications focal point to create engaging content for large-scale social media campaigns. This may involve developing multimedia content, coordinating with partners and influencers, and tracking campaign performance through detailed social metrics analysis.
- Partnership Coordination: You will support the GWA/HPS/Digital influencers outreach team by researching potential collaborators and reporting on current partnerships and activations. This may include identifying key influencers, monitoring their engagement, and providing recommendations for future collaborations.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: You should have a secondary education with a degree in Communications, Digital Studies, or Multimedia Design. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification is preferred.
Work Experience: You should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 1 year with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Experience in social media management, content creation, and digital communications is highly desirable. Knowledge of the UN system, particularly UNHCR or another UN agency, would be advantageous.
Key Competencies: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role, along with excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail. You should be proficient in using social media management tools, content management systems, and basic graphic design software. Fluency in Arabic and English is required, and knowledge of Islamic philanthropy would be beneficial. As a team player, you should be able to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Additional Information
This position is open to Emirati nationals and candidates holding valid residency status in the UAE. Fluency in Arabic and English is essential for this role. Functional clearance is not required. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of refugees in the MENA region.
