The Generation Equality Forum in Tanzania

In collaboration with the Governments of France and Mexico, UN Women convened the Generation Equality Forum (GEF), a global partnership aimed at accelerating the full implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the Sustainable Development Goals. Tanzania has embraced the GEF, particularly the Action Coalition on Economic Justice and Rights, championed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The Action Coalition on Economic Justice and Rights aims to enhance measures such as investments in gender-responsive public and private quality care services, law and policy reforms, and the creation of decent work opportunities for women and young women. Tanzania’s commitments include expanding access to productive resources, designing gender-responsive macroeconomic plans, and reducing the number of women and girls living in poverty.

The Role of the Communications Consultant

As the Work From Home Communications Consultant, you will collaborate with UN Women Tanzania to support GEF localization and multi-stakeholder engagement through the execution of Tanzania’s GEF communications strategy. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Implementing the Communications Strategy: Develop and execute an annual communications plan to amplify Tanzania’s leadership role in the GEF and raise awareness of national commitments.
  2. Content Development and Dissemination: Create compelling communications content for digital and non-digital platforms, including success stories related to Tanzania’s implementation of GEF commitments.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to drive visibility and promote Generation Equality initiatives.
  4. Media Relations: Manage media relations activities, including organizing press briefings, interviews, and coverage of events, to ensure accurate and positive media coverage of GEF efforts.
  5. Social Media and Digital Marketing: Develop and implement a monthly social media content plan and create digital marketing materials to promote Generation Equality achievements.

You should possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field, along with at least six years of practical experience in communications, advocacy, and media relations, particularly in the development sector.
