UNEP Vacancy: Associate Programme Officer

Summary:

• Location: Geneva, Economic and Trade Policy Unit.
• Duration: 2 years.

UNEP Background:
UNEP, the environmental pillar of the United Nations, champions sustainable development and eco-consciousness. Within it, the Industry and Economy Division champions a Green Economy. The Resources and Markets Branch within this division dives deep into the interplay of economics, trade, and environmental sustainability, striving to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Role Purpose:
To bolster the Economic and Trade Policy Unit, the Junior Professional Officer will aid in strategic planning, analytical duties, and fostering a Green and Circular Economy. This includes creating eco-centric macro-economic policies to combat climate change, nature deterioration, and pollution.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Programme Implementation: Aid in creating and executing programmes, conduct extensive research, liaise, and plan interventions.
2. Outreach & Communication: Engage in active outreach, produce informative materials, and foster partnerships.
3. Miscellaneous Duties: As assigned.

Expected Deliverables:

• Proficiency in UNEP’s work on sustainability.
• Assistance in the Inclusive Green Economy project.
• Successful stakeholder engagement and building of networks.

Supervision:
Reporting directly to Ms. Joy Aeree Kim, the candidate will receive structured feedback and guidance, along with periodic performance reviews.

Training & Learning:

• Comprehensive induction.
• Training on project management and macro-economic policy.
• Exposure to broader industry issues.

Requirements:

• Advanced degree in a related field.
• Minimum of two years relevant work experience.
• Proficiency in English, with knowledge of another UN language being a bonus.
• Must possess competencies in professionalism, planning, communication, and teamwork.

Eligibility:

• Korean nationality.
• English and Korean proficiency, with a valid English proficiency test score.
• Age limit: 32 years as of 31 December 2023 (adjustments for military service).
• Males must have completed or be exempt from Korean military service.
• Limited to two JPO positions applications in the year.
