Background & Job Description

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a German government-backed company that has been implementing global development policies for over 50 years. With a presence in 120 countries, GIZ partners with local organizations to drive sustainable change. This internship is part of the AgSys project, which plays a key role in reforming agricultural and food systems to address global hunger and climate challenges.

The AgSys project supports policy transformation and facilitates cross-sectoral collaboration to link agriculture, food security, climate protection, and biodiversity conservation. As an intern, you will contribute to M&E and communication initiatives, supporting country-specific programs in Cameroon, India, Nigeria, Mali, Kenya, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Zambia, and Togo.

You will work closely with the GV AgSys team in Bonn, assisting in the development of monitoring frameworks, communications strategies, and stakeholder engagement activities. This position is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to gain hands-on experience in M&E methodologies, policy advocacy, and global development communications.

Tasks

As a Junior M&E and Communication Intern, you will be involved in a wide range of activities, including:

• Assisting in the development of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems to track project impact and effectiveness.
• Supporting the design and implementation of communication strategies for AgSys initiatives.
• Contributing to project reports, data analysis, and impact assessments.
• Assisting in the organization of workshops and training sessions, including minute-taking and documentation.
• Developing content for newsletters, press releases, social media, and other communication channels.
• Collaborating with project teams to streamline communication workflows and enhance engagement with stakeholders.
• Helping manage M&E data collection, validation, and visualization tools.
• Engaging with policy stakeholders, NGOs, and development partners to disseminate key findings.
• Supporting internal and external event coordination and communication logistics.
• Providing research assistance and contributing to the development of case studies and success stories.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

• Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a degree program in International Development Studies, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field.
• Demonstrated understanding of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) methodologies and communication strategies.
• Prior coursework or certifications in data analysis, public relations, or development communications are a plus.

Experience

• Experience in data collection, analysis, and visualization within an M&E framework is preferred.
• Prior exposure to digital marketing, content creation, or stakeholder engagement.
• Strong editorial skills and experience with writing reports, articles, and social media content.
• Familiarity with project management and coordination within a global or development-focused organization.
• Previous internship or volunteer experience in an international development setting is an advantage.

Language Skills

• Proficiency in English and French is required.
• German language skills are highly desirable.
