Introduction to the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)

The Organization Development Unit (ODU), within the Human Resources Management Section (HRMS), Division of Administration (DoA), is integral to ECA’s mission by enhancing organizational capacity and promoting a conducive work environment.

Overview of the Internship

Based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this internship position with the Organization Development Unit (ODU) offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to ECA’s initiatives in human resources management. Under the direct supervision of the Senior Staff Development Assistant and the overall guidance of the Chief of ODU, the intern will support various projects aimed at enhancing organizational effectiveness and employee development. This is a six-month internship programme, providing hands-on experience in a dynamic international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enhancement of O-Induction: Assist in updating and improving the O-Induction programme on the Moodle platform, ensuring it aligns with current organizational needs and best practices.
  • Language Centre Support: Monitor and document language class attendance, contributing to the effective operation of language learning initiatives within the organization.
  • Career Development Support: Contribute to the coordination of schedules and collaborate on career support offerings under the “Career and Learning Stop Shop” initiative, aimed at enhancing staff development opportunities.
  • Skills Inventory Management: Assist in conceptualizing a skills inventory to match subject experts with mentees, facilitating internal mentoring processes to promote knowledge sharing and skills development.
  • HR Dashboards and Data Compilation: Provide input on the design of HR dashboards, compile statistical data, and assist in the analysis and presentation of data to support evidence-based decision-making within HR operations.
  • Administrative Support: Assist in providing administrative support to ongoing projects within the Organization Development Unit, ensuring smooth implementation and documentation of project activities.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Education: Candidates must be enrolled in, or have completed, a first degree or graduate programme (second university degree or equivalent). A background in adult education, human resources management, or management studies is desirable.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft applications is essential, and experience with Moodle would be advantageous. Prior experience with survey design, data analysis, and presentation skills will be beneficial.
  • Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
