The ILO Internship Programme offers an opportunity for talented individuals to:
(a) Increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes, and strategies.
(b) Gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.
The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO, and there should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

IMPORTANT: Please only apply for an internship if you fulfill the following two criteria:

Introduction: In 1975, the ILO opened its office in the Fiji Islands. The primary objective of the ILO Office for Pacific Island Countries is to assist Governments and Employers’ and Workers’ Organizations of the Pacific Island countries in their efforts to reduce decent work deficits and to pursue development for dignity through the achievements of rights at work, employment, social protection, and social dialogue. The CO-Suva office serves 22 Pacific Island countries, 11 of which are ILO member States: Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Samoa, the Republic of Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, the Republic of Palau, Cook Islands, and the Kingdom of Tonga. The CO-Suva has a Senior Communication and Information Management Assistant who works to carry out communications related to work in these 11 member States. The general role of these communications is to enhance understanding and awareness of the work of ILO in the Pacific Islands. ILO Internship Program Seeks Communications
Description of Duties: The Intern will work with the Senior Communication and Information Management Assistant and the Country Director and undertake the following tasks, which include, but are not limited to:
- Developing content such as short articles, interviews, infographics, etc.
- Developing content for social media such as graphic cards, posts, slideshows, etc.
- Rewriting and editing written outputs such as feature articles, press releases, etc.
- Proofreading articles and material as necessary.
- Supporting the management of social media channels (Twitter and LinkedIn).
- Monitoring metrics on social media channels.
- Supporting the production of audio-visual material such as video interviews, podcasts, etc.
- Liaising with projects and program officers regarding the production of specific items (e.g. articles, brochures, etc.). ILO Internship Program Seeks Communications
- Supporting the organization of events and/or workshops.
- Providing support to other assignments as required, relating to event set up, media requests, etc.
Education: Candidates must be enrolled in the final year of a postgraduate degree program, such as a master’s program or equivalent, or in a higher degree program or have completed such a program in the year preceding the application. Areas of study may include mass communications, media relations, journalism, international relations, gender studies, or international development. However, other areas of study are acceptable should the candidate be able to display a demonstrable interest in the communications field. ILO Internship Program Seeks Communications
Experience: Relevant experience and knowledge carrying out communications actions would be an advantage. For example, developing written or audio-visual content, social media content production and marketing, event organization. Infographic production or data visualization experience/ability would be an advantage. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) is an advantage. Knowledge and experience of labor issues, working with an international organization or civil society organization, or of the Asia and the Pacific region is an asset. Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written English (near-native) is essential.
Command of other languages from Asia and the Pacific region is beneficial.
Competencies:
- Ability to develop written content that is interesting, engaging, and non-institutional.
- Ability to produce content for social media channels.
- Understanding of social media monitoring metrics and tools.
- Ability to produce and/or edit simple audio-visual communications materials.

Selection process:
If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the field office for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc., for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.
Stipend:
As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend of USD 600 from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example, your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense. Insurance:
Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
