Background & Job Description

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is a regional body made up of eight East African countries: Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. IGAD works to promote regional integration, sustainable development, peace, and security across the Horn of Africa.

Initially founded in 1986 to address drought and development challenges, IGAD has since evolved to include broader mandates such as economic cooperation and political stability. Headquartered in Djibouti, IGAD now runs multiple programs that impact various sectors, from agriculture and health to governance and peacebuilding.

To foster youth empowerment and build regional capacity, IGAD is offering internship opportunities in 2025 with support from the Government of Japan.
